Painted in the cold snap last March. This gave me the opportunity to go up to the foothills of the Dublin Mountains and do a few tonal sketches plus take a ref photo for perspective and scale. This was a really beautiful scene. The ground was white and most of the brown scrub/hedgerows were umber browns and deep crimson in colour - truly breathtaking views. I wanted to try to capture the 'stillness'. The only green, was the tiny bit at the front of the painting; slowly thawing in the noon haze.
