This is an oil painting of O'Connell Street, Dublin on a very wet day. I decided to do the painting in a loose impressionistic style and I really wanted to convey the atmosphere in a slightly abstract feel so I did the entire painting with a square tipped pallet knife. This prevented me from getting too bogged down in finicky detail and was great to heighten the feeling of falling rain with reflections etc that was present on the day. My objective was to capture the mood and atmosphere of the rainy day and I was far less concerned with photographical accuracy on this one.
