Lough Tay in Winter

Lough Tay in Autumn (Irish: Loch Té) “Guinness Lake” is a small but scenic lake set in the Wicklow Mountains in County Wicklow, Ireland.

It lies between the mountains of Djouce and Luggala and is fed by the Cloghoge River, which then flows into Lough Dan to the south. The northern coastline forms part of an estate belonging to the Guinness family. It is edged with a beach of startlingly white sand; the dark peaty water and the white sand create a striking similarity to a pint of Guinness when look at it at the right angle. The lake is where the village for the well know TV series “Vikings” was set.

This image was taken in February just before the sunrise. Morning of that memorable day was very special as conditions were finally perfect. Light, wind, temperature, humidity, perfect snow fall (which doesn’t happen to often in Ireland) and even the clouds collaborated and made it an unforgettable and hugely unique experience.

I was waiting over four years in for this moment, visiting and re-visiting the lake at each snowy morning.

My goal is to always achieve a visual result which resembles the scene at it's truest, as witnessed by all the senses.

Final image consists of 27 photographs merged together into a high resolution multi-exposure composite.

Printed on gallery quality fine art papers using 12 colour digital pigment ink printer, produced exclusively by the artist.

 * Please note that the 183 x 61cm size print does not include any white border between the printed surface and edges of paper. All care needs to be taken when handling the art work. Print is best to be dry-mounted on a high quality board, and then framed to the preferred style.
