About the Artist
I was born and grew up in Derry. From early on I enjoyed sketching and messing around in art. After school I attended a local art college at foundation level and then studied design in university in Manchester. After a long hiatus {very long} I got back into painting in my early thirties.
Spending a few years trying to find my way in different mediums {oils, pastels, ink, etc} I stumbled upon watercolours and got hooked immediately. Being relatively close to all forms of landscape {sea, forest, city} I found watercolours to suit sketches, tonal studies and long form painting.
Although hard in our current predicament I usually start with sketches and small studies on location with photographs as source and colour research. Through lines, forms and aesthetic balance I’ve been trying to reconcile our current dependency on technology with our often fraught relationship with nature.
