About the Artist
Eileen Healy is based in Cork city, Ireland.
She studied at CIT Crawford College of Art and won the 1988 Student of The Year award. The following year she was artist in residence at the Lavitte Gallery,Cork and then became a studio member of The Cork Artists Collective for 5 years. Eileen Healy is mainly a figuretive artist who works from life.A strong believer in the practice of drawing she believes its drawing and painting from life that keeps her work fresh and alive. She has been invited to show at both the Arnotts portrait award exhibiton and RHA annual open submission show in Dublin.She has received many commissions including a portrait of Cork playwrite and novelist Conal Creedon for the Crawford Gallery series of Irish writers by Irish artists.The image was used on the cover of his publication, 2nd City Trilogy. In 2001 she moved from the Collective and became a studio member at Cork’s Backwater Studios where she was secretary on their board of Directors.She is also a life drawing tutor at CIT Crawford College of Art and runs regular drawing workshops and summerschool. Healy has also been on many art residencies including Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Burren Art College, Cillriallig, Nantes in Brittany and The Students Arts League New York.She currently has a very successful one person show at ‘On The PIgs Back’ restaurant in Douglas, Cork.
