About the Artist
Based in Wexford, Ireland, Fran completed his Hons degree in Art in 2016 and has gone on to have several exhibitions. His studio is based in The Creative Hub in Wexford town.
He was longlisted for the RDS Visual Art award in 2016 for his work which he submitted for the final year exhibition with Carlow IT. Although not shortlisted, Carlow IT purchased the work off him and it is now hanging in the Library in the Carlow Campus.
In October 2019, he was chosen to exhibit as a collective with other artists in the Wexford County Council exhibition, From the Mountain (part of exhibition pictured below).
An accidental slip of paint on paper in his 3rd year in college has influenced his work to its current direction, through long endless process and experimentation with oil paint, white spirit and paper, he has found ways without brushes to manifest and conjour imagery by mark making through the wet mix by the time it dries.
The works are not made from outside locations, the locations come from chance encounters trying to make balance from order and chaos and never sure which appeals more to the eye. His current work also plays with texture directions of forms and background trying to capture the illusions of depth perspective. Each work meandering between readable and unreadable, traditional and abstract, reality and dream, there and not there. Fran offers the viewer escape, a place to find what he has left but also enough chaos so the viewer can find forms and emotions individual to their experience with life.
