About the Artist
The Big I Am
I started out life in London and moved to Ireland thirty years ago, to follow my dream of playing traditional music which I still do. I’ve always drawn and painted since as long as I remember. I was initially fascinated by the cartoonish drawings of The Beano and Sparky, et al and then by the much more sophisticated art in Mad Magazine and Dan Dare. I always wanted to develop my art skills and I haven’t stopped since.
I’m particularly interested in ideas; still lifes and landscapes can be beautiful but for me they’re just ways of honing skills needed to make ideas come to life. That’s where the real art is for me. My work hangs in the Embassy of the United Kindom in France (Paris) as part of the British National Collection. My work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, The Sunday Times and The Irish Times.
Then, married and with our first baby on the way, I decided to try out what I suspected I could make a living at; art and illustration. In fact, I started out drawing cartoons for newspapers under the pseudonym Titch McCoy and over the years progressed onto full colour illustrations.
