About the Artist
Belfast artist, Marie Curran, studied Design at University of Ulster graduating in 1994.
Her main inspiration is the natural world, animals in particular and loves the opportunity afforded to closely study the subject matter while spending many hours drawing it in detail.
She works mainly in dry media such as pastels, colour pencils and especially enjoys graphite pencil but also combines them sometimes with watercolour. Marie has often worked in watercolour choosing it as the medium for many local landscapes and buildings.
Much of her work over the years has been private commissions of animals and houses but in recent years has concentrated more on wildlife subjects. Opportunities to photograph wildlife subjects for reference material are something she really enjoys.
In the last few years she has also started exploring a love of still life drawing and has had several of these selected for the annual Royal Ulster Academy exhibitions.
