About the Artist
Robin Savage is a postcolonial artist who paints dynamic geometric paintings that focus on
resistance, history, justice, and freedom in multi-layered allegories. Influenced by alternative
modernisms in the Americas and Ireland, his work generates both moving energy and critical
thought as it seeks a hybrid style of modified cubism and new ways of conveying meaning in
artistic representation. Savage is an educator as well, and currently teaches Irish literature
and film at RISD after years teaching in the American South and Southwest in Caribbean,
African American, and Chicano cultural studies. He resides in Maine where he is working
on a large series of Irish American history paintings.
