About

I graduated from NCAD with an honours degree in 1995 and have worked as an artist ever since, exhibiting extensively both internationally & nationally - the Hugh Lane, The Guinness Hopstore and the Rha Gallery among others and my work can be found in many important collections including the Office of Public Works(OPW).

In my work I attempt to depict not objective reality but rather the subjective emotions and responses that my surroundings or subject arouse in me.

I am lucky enough to live in an old Coastguard station perched on a headland on the borders of Wicklow and Wexford, this location has feed and informed my painting,I am constantly presented with the ever changing nature of the elements and I am fascinated by this continual unfolding drama

For me paint and the act of painting…creating a world or story on a canvas that can live and grow both in my head or the viewer’s imagination is the magic and purpose of my work. A painting should suggest/conjure up a whole host of possibilies that can make each viewing a new experience.

My Landscape paintings evolve from my fascination with the interactions between the light, wind, sea and the landscape. Some of the paintings portray the effects of wind on the landscape(in particular trees) and the rushing restless cloudscapes of the sky, while others focus on moments of sheer stillness and the quiet calm a of a summers day . In each work I try to capture the magic relationships that occur between these elements  so that an ordinary scene  can be transformed in so many different ways depending on the play of light, wind etc..

I want to catch and immortalize these moments of wonder and beauty that may otherwise fade and be lost in a fleeting moment……. painting is all about the intuitive experience of the moment and landscape rather than a direct reproduction of it

I am absolutely delighted to announce that I was approached by the clever people behind Colourtrend who wanted to develop a new range of paints inspired by Irish colours - called CURATOR

"Curator is the gatherer and custodian of colours inspired by Ireland's native Design Community. This Community, featuring artisans from crafts and design to art, have a key commonality; they all quote Ireland as their colour muse. "
I was asked to help develop my own colour in the range based on the colours in my paintings. ROLLING HARVEST is the resulting colour echoing the scorched grasses of harvest fields as well as hinting at the sandy colours of the Wexford beaches surrounding me....

The new range of Paints have just been launched and of the 144 colours in the range 29 have been created with Artists, craftspeople and creatives, So I am honoured to be part of this amazing project, which will be unrolled across the US next spring...

Commissions of special places, or  portraits are all very welcome!

All work is carefully packaged and bubble wrapped then placed in a cardboard box and delivered directly to you
