2016 Irish Art Calendar in support of Barretstown

ArtClickIreland.com, the online portal for Irish art, has just released its 2016 Irish art calendar in support of their charity partner Barretstown.

Barretstown help children, and their families, rebuild their lives after the trauma of childhood cancer and other serious illnesses. A key principle of the Barretstown camps is that all children and families who come to Barretstown do so free of charge. They have an annual fundraising target of €4.5 million each year and 97% of these funds come from entirely voluntary sources and fundraising initiatives.

The children, aged from seven to seventeen, come from Ireland and more than twenty other European countries to take part in the wide range of activities the camp provides such as arts and crafts, canoeing and outdoor adventure. After successfully overcoming the initial challenge of these activities, the children stop seeing themselves as ‘sick kids’ and begin to regain their own inner strength, confidence and self-esteem. This process is known as ‘Therapeutic Recreation’, which is fully endorsed by the medical world. This helps children affected by serious illness regain their confidence and self-esteem and has become internationally recognised as having a profound and positive impact on their lives and their recovery process. ‘Art plays an important role in this process and we are delighted to be involved in some small way,’ says ArtClick co-founder Edith Rohu. ‘With the calendar you can enjoy Irish art throughout 2016 & know that you’ve helped a great cause.’

The wall calendar features beautiful original artwork by some of the most popular ArtClick artists including Norman Teeling, Vivienne St Clair & Ann McKenna. Fine art photographer Dominic Moriarty made a special visit to Barretstown & captured a very beautiful picture which was chosen as the first image of the New Year.

Major holidays for Ireland, UK, USA & Canada are included so it makes an ideal gift or stocking filler for loved ones around the world.

Calendars are currently available in the National Gallery of Ireland Shop, Dubray BooksDuffy’s Book Shop in Westport, Celtic Creations Vancouver, Brookline Booksmith Boston & online at ArtClick Ireland
